creating an altar

what is an altar?

There is so much one could say about altars so I’ll try and keep it simple.

Simply put, an altar is a sacred space.

It can be very simple or very elaborate. It could be temporary or more permanent.

For the purposes of this course, we are creating a personal altar, and so what is important is that it has meaning to YOU.

Your altar will serve to focus your ATTENTION and to help to hold your INTENTION for the duration of this course (and hopefully beyond).

It also serves to call in energetic and spiritual support for your journey - you may already feel very spiritually or energetically connected, or you may not. This is not important. The very physical practice of creating and using an altar serves to connect you to energetic and spiritual support.

The altar will help us to create ceremony around our practices.  It will help us to forge and strengthen this connection between our yoni and the divine.

where should my altar be?

Your altar should be somewhere that you can easily use it every day.

Depending on your living circumstances, it might be a table or a shelf.

It might even have to be a box or a cloth that you store your items in and bring them out when you want to use the altar.

What should i put on my altar?

There are no “rules” about what HAS to be on an altar and what can’t be there.

You may already have an altar - if so you might wish to add to it or to create a seperate altar for this journey.

Be guided by beauty.

Essentials for this journey are:

  • a candle

  • anything that represents your yoni (a crystal, some yoni art, a model, a yoni egg, a photograph of your yoni, a piece of wood shaped like a yoni…use your imagination - if you want yoni art or yoni models you can find them on my Etsy shop

Other than that - just go with what brings you joy and whatever is meaningful to you - maybe you want a beautiful cloth, some flowers, some incense, your menstrual blood, a photograph of your great grandmother….. there is lots of information and ideas online about altar creation - you can go in as structured or unstructured as suits you.

Activating your altar

You don’t have to “finish” creating your altar today.

In fact, it is more likely that your altar will grow over the course of this journey.

When you have the basics (candle and object representing yoni) - you can activate your altar - follow the guided audio practice for this.
