the devotional sauna ritual
My devotional saunas are places of deep release and transformation.
It may be that you are going through a period of deep grief - loss of a loved one or a relationship.
Perhaps you are transitioning in life - you might have become a mother or you are moving through menopause.
Maybe your womb has been calling out to you and you feel it’s time to listen.
When held in ceremonial space, the sauna holds the potential for deep transformation: a space to feel the unfelt things, a space to release that which we no longer need to carry, a space for integration.
I use thermal leaf whisking - a Northern European tradition that utilises bunches of leaves (traditionally birch but I use various plants) to move the steam around the sauna and massage the skin with rhythmic tapping and sweeping motions that support the body’s natural detoxification processes and help you to drop DEEPLY into the sensational experience of your body in the sauna.
I combine this with intuitive bodywork using sugar scrubs - a combination of unrefined sugar, oil and other herbs (depending on what we are working with) to bring deep release to the body.
I use my voice and my drum as healing tools to support the energy that is moving in the ritual.
I work with cycles of hot and cold, with steam and oil from the sauna stones to create moist heat, and the cold of the natural plunge pool just outside the sauna (you do not have to plunge - you can just cool in the air. We work through these cycles with 15 to 20 minutes of heat followed by a cold cycle.
What makes my spaces unique is that I offer a full body treatment for women.
ALL of you is welcomed in - so I offer womb massage, breast massage and pelvic massage as part of these rituals.
The sessions are clothing optional - I hold the space unclothed - AND this is a non-sexual space.
You are ALWAYS in a place of choice about what touch you wish to receive - I will encourage you to ask for what you want and say no to what you don’t want. Consent is absolutely fundamental to all I do.
Where are devotional saunas held?
The Devotional Sauna Sessions are held in my sauna on my land (that I transformed into a working sauna with my own hands!) - it’s a small 3 person sauna with a bench for you to lay on and a spring-fed natural cold plunge pool next to the sauna. The Red River runs just outside the sauna and we are held by the trees and the wildlife.
It’s wild and magical and elemental and deeply connecting rather than manicured and sophisticated (just like me!!)
It’s just outside Troon, near Camborne.
what happens in a session?
We open ceremonial space and we begin by setting your intention for the ritual and speaking it into the waters…
I will then invite you into the bodywork - when I work intuitively with the steam, the whisks and the scrub - interspersed with cooling periods where I open the doors or invite you into the plunge (you don’t have to plunge - it intensifies the experience and it isn’t for everyone).
I’ll weave my voice and drum into the session, along with oils and herbs that will support your journey.
We close as we opened, with a prayer, and there is space for integration as the sauna cools.
Can I take part if i am bleeding?
Absolutely - some women struggle in the sauna when they are bleeding, for others it’s very supportive - so do what feels right for you but your blood is absolutely welcomed into the sauna. I always welcome your womb into the space and she will be a significant part of the session, whether you are bleeding or not.
Is Yoni Massage part of the session?
If you want it to be! I don’t recommend having your first yoni massage in the devotional sauna space because it’s already a deep space, but if you have received yoni massage before and you feel that internal or external touch on your yoni would be supportive, you are welcomed to ask for that touch.
I generally use the whisks over the yoni (with your consent) to provide heat to your womb and yoni, and I work with my hands around the external pelvic area (with your consent). We can go deeper if it feels like that’s what you need.
why are you unclothed during the session?
Because it’s hot! This is an intimate, non-sexual space where I support you as a sister - we will both be sweating profusely and our bodies will touch - this isn’t for everyone, but for those to whom it speaks, the experience is incredible.
